COURSES

Pre Ballet : Through ballet and modern based movements, the children are given an introduction to dance. They explore how their body moves and become aware of the space around. They will respond to the music creatively as well as learning to listen and follow instructions. While having fun, they begin to experience working as partners, in a group and individually.

Classical Ballet: Emphasis is on understanding correct technique and attaining maximum personal levels of achievement. Line and quality of movement will be strived for and, especially in the lower grades, we encourage freedom of expression through dance. As all dance forms ‘feed’ into one another, from primary level we recommend that children learn tap and modern to supplement their learning in ballet.
As the children become older they learn more technical and complex movements. Pointe work is included from Grade 5 ( but is not compulsory)

Modern Dance
The modern grades develop strength, flexibility and artistry through a series of carefully constructed exercises and dance movements. Various styles are covered including contemporary, lyrical, blues, jazz and ‘funky hip hop’. A strong understanding of classical technique is required. Therefore it is prefered that the student studies ballet to take grade 2 modern plus.

Tap
Learn to make rhythm with your feet. This class is normally combined with Modern or Ballet.
For example: 42nd Street, Tap Dogs and Riverdance. Teachers use the ISTD syllabus to gradually introduce a tap technique that focuses on correct weight placement and alignment to enable students to achieve sensitive tonal quality and neat and clear footwork. These skills will enable students to tackle combinations set to any music and style.

Hip Hop / Streetdance
A class combining the five elements of Hip Hop. influences such as Beat Boxing, Breakdancing, Popping and Locking are used to create one of Studio 1A's favourite styles. It is also combined with an urban commercial kick. Ideal for new dancers this style will give you the basic portfolio of moves. Remember this is not Syllabus Jazz its funky, upto date and commercial.
